Some arrive because they have broken a denture while eating a crusty baguette, while others sheepishly admit it was dropped into the bathroom sink. We've heard almost every story imaginable, and surprisingly, those stories often tell us more than you might think.

A denture consultation is far more than simply looking inside your mouth for five minutes and giving you a price. It is an opportunity for us to understand your history, examine your current dentures and oral tissues, identify what has worked well, what has not, and build a complete clinical picture before making any recommendations.

Getting a brand-new set of dentures is an exciting milestone. Whether you've replaced older dentures or you're wearing dentures for the very first time, it's completely normal to wonder what the next few days and weeks will be like. One of the most common questions we hear at The Swissedent Denture Clinic is, "How long will it take before they feel normal?"

The honest answer is around two weeks for most people. Some adapt quicker, while others may need a little longer depending on their mouth, previous denture experience, and how regularly they wear them. The important thing to remember is that your dentures haven't failed if they don't feel perfect on day one. In fact, if they felt completely natural immediately, we'd probably be more surprised!

Think of your new dentures like buying a new pair of shoes. The shoes are made correctly, they're the right size, and they look fantastic. But when you first wear them, they can feel stiff, slightly tight, and unfamiliar. After wearing them for a couple of weeks, they soften, your feet adapt, and eventually you stop thinking about them altogether. Dentures are very similar. Your mouth, gums, tongue, lips and facial muscles all need a little time to learn how to work together again.
