First of all, congratulations on your new dentures. Whether this is your very first set or an upgrade from a previous one, getting new dentures is a big step. It is not just about teeth. It is about confidence, comfort, health, and enjoying everyday life again. At Swissedent Denture Clinic, we see this moment as the start of a journey, not the end of treatment.

New dentures do take a little getting used to. That is completely normal. Think of them like a new pair of shoes. They might feel strange at first, maybe even a little uncomfortable, but with the right care, guidance, and a bit of patience, they soon become part of you.

This guide is written especially for patients who have just received new dentures. It is based on our clinical experience and our in-clinic denture care protocols.

We will talk you through cleaning, wearing, eating, speaking, and what to do if something does not feel quite right. We will also share a few reassuring truths and a light sense of humour along the way, because dentistry does not always need to sound scary or serious.

A 20 Year Old Denture, A Changed Face, And A Remarkable Transformation At Swissedent Denture Clinic

At Swissedent Denture Clinic, we often meet patients who have quietly adapted to dentures that no longer serve them. They chew a little less confidently, smile a little less freely, and over time, their face subtly changes shape. This case is a perfect example of why dentures should never be seen as something you fit once and forget about for decades.

This story is about a gentleman who had worn the same set of dentures for around 20 years. Twenty years is a long time for any dental appliance. Teeth wear down, acrylic thins, and most importantly, the jawbone and soft tissues underneath change. By the time we became involved, those dentures were not just worn out, they were actively altering his facial appearance and comfort.

Getting new dentures is a big step, and if you are reading this, chances are you have either just received your dentures or you are about to. First things first, let us reassure you. What you are feeling right now is completely normal. Every denture wearer goes through an adjustment phase. Some adapt quickly, others need a little more time, and that is perfectly fine.

At The Swissedent Denture Clinic, we have helped thousands of patients through this exact journey. We know the questions you are asking yourself, often before you even say them out loud. Will they feel natural. Will I be able to eat properly. Will I sound like myself again. And yes, will they stay in place.

This guide is here to talk you through the reality of new dentures, how to adapt more comfortably, and how using a denture adhesive like Fixodent in the correct way can help during the early stages. Think of this as friendly, honest advice from professionals who do this every single day.

The Story Behind the Swissedent Name

Every patient who visits Swissedent Denture Clinic eventually asks the same question. Where did the name Swissedent come from? Is it Swiss? Is it a special technique? Is it inspired by mountains, chocolate or precision engineering? The truth is much more interesting. The Swissedent name is rooted in decades of prosthetic innovation, history and craftsmanship. It represents a very specific philosophy of denture making, one centred on natural appearance, precise fit and personalised care. To understand why the name Swissedent matters, we must look back at both the long history of dentures and the origins of the Swissedent method.

Dentures have existed in some form for thousands of years. As far back as 700 BC, early civilizations were crafting basic replacements from human or animal teeth held together with gold wire. As time passed, attempts included carved bone, ivory, wood and eventually porcelain teeth in the 1700s. Although these early dentures looked impressive for their time, they were uncomfortable, brittle or unrealistic. It wasn’t until the 20th century, with the introduction of acrylic and improvements in dental science, that dentures became reliable and comfortable. This slow evolution created the foundation for the next major step forward. A system focused not only on function but also on natural appearance and facial harmony.

Why Do My Dentures Break?

If you have ever opened your denture box in the morning, looked down and thought, well that is not ideal, then you are not alone. As a Clinical Dental Technician running Swissedent Denture Clinic, I see this more often than you might imagine. Dentures are hardworking little heroes, taking thousands of chewing cycles a day, dealing with hot curries, cold smoothies, the occasional accidental bite on a fork, and sometimes even the floor when they slip out of your hands.

So when a denture breaks, it is usually telling us something. In this guide, I will walk you through the most common reasons dentures crack or snap, how to prevent it, and when it is time to visit us for help. I will keep things clear, friendly, and just technical enough so you know you are getting expert advice without feeling like you are reading a science textbook.

Understanding Clinical Dental Technicians in the UK
When you think of dentistry, you probably imagine your dentist with a mirror in one hand and a dental tool in the other. But there is another important professional working behind the scenes and, in many cases, face to face with patients too. That person is the Clinical Dental Technician, often called a CDT. These professionals combine technical artistry with clinical skill to design, make, and fit dentures that restore smiles, confidence, and comfort.
