What Does “Per Arch” Mean?
An arch means either the upper jaw or the lower jaw.

For example, one complete upper denture is one arch. A complete upper and lower set consists of two arches.

This distinction matters when comparing prices. A clinic advertising dentures “from £550” may be referring to one denture, not a complete upper and lower set. Always check whether a quoted fee applies per arch, per denture or to the entire treatment.

Why Do Denture Prices Vary So Much?
A denture is not simply a row of artificial teeth attached to pink acrylic. It is a custom-made dental appliance that must work with your gums, jaw movements, tongue, facial muscles and remaining natural teeth.

One of the main advantages of acrylic is that it can usually be adjusted, repaired, relined or have additional teeth added more easily than some other materials. This can be especially useful when the mouth is likely to change following extractions.

A standard acrylic denture may be suitable if:

How Much Does a Private Acrylic Denture Cost?
A Private Acrylic Denture costs £750 per arch. A complete upper and lower set of Private Acrylic Dentures costs £1,400.

Private acrylic dentures provide greater scope for improved materials, more detailed tooth selection and individualised design. The teeth can be selected and positioned with closer attention to your face, smile, age and existing appearance.

The additional investment may include greater consideration of:

How Much Do Swissedent Cosmetic Dentures Cost?
Swissedent Cosmetic Dentures cost £1,800 for a complete upper and lower set.

This is our most personalised complete acrylic denture option. It is intended for patients who want a greater level of natural characterisation, premium materials and detailed control over the appearance of their new smile.

We use the Dentogenic Concept when designing Swissedent Cosmetic Dentures. This means we consider factors such as your age, facial characteristics, smile and personality when selecting and positioning the teeth.

The process may involve:

• Premium denture teeth
• High-impact acrylic
• Individual tooth positioning
• Detailed smile design
• Natural variations in tooth arrangement

How Much Does a Flexible Valplast Denture Cost?
A genuine Flexible Valplast Denture costs £850 per arch at Swissedent.

Valplast is a flexible thermoplastic material used for partial dentures. Instead of relying on conventional metal clasps, the design may use discreet gum-coloured extensions that engage around suitable natural teeth.

Patients may consider Valplast because it can offer:

• A discreet appearance
• No conventional visible metal clasps in many designs
• A thin and lightweight feel
• Good resistance to fracture
• Flexibility around suitable natural teeth
• An attractive solution for certain missing-tooth spaces
  
  

However, flexible dentures are not suitable for every mouth. They can be more difficult to reline, repair or alter than acrylic dentures. A tooth addition to a Flexible Valplast Denture currently costs £300, compared with £150 for an addition to a conventional denture.

At Swissedent, we provide genuine Valplast rather than using the Valplast name as a general description for any flexible material. Our associated dental laboratory has produced thousands of Valplast dentures since 2013 and follows controlled manufacturing and material-traceability procedures.

The correct material and design must still be chosen according to your mouth. Flexible does not automatically mean more comfortable, and it should not be recommended simply because it looks discreet in a photograph.

How Much Does a Cobalt Chrome Denture Cost?
A Cobalt Chrome Denture costs £950 per arch.

This type of partial denture uses a strong metal framework to support the replacement teeth. Because cobalt chrome is strong, the framework can often be made thinner and less bulky than an acrylic denture.

Potential benefits include:

• A thinner and more streamlined design
• Good strength and durability
• Greater stability in suitable mouths
• Reduced coverage of the gums or palate
• Support from the remaining natural teeth

A chrome denture must be designed carefully around healthy, stable natural teeth. Some teeth may require minor preparation by a dentist so that the framework is properly supported and does not place damaging forces on them.
Chrome is not automatically better than acrylic or Valplast. It is an excellent option when the mouth provides the correct support, but suitability must be assessed clinically.

How Much Does an Implant Denture Cost?
A Swissedent Implant Denture costs £5,500 per arch.

An implant-retained denture connects to dental implants using attachments. It remains removable for cleaning but can provide substantially more security than a conventional denture, particularly in the lower jaw.

The exact treatment requirements depend on whether implants are already present and whether new implant surgery is required. The total cost may be affected by:

Implant dentures are not maintenance-free. Retentive inserts can wear, attachments need regular cleaning and the denture must still be reviewed. Implants can improve stability, but they do not eliminate the need for good hygiene or ongoing care.

How Much Do Denture Repairs, Relines and Tooth Additions Cost?
A broken or loose denture does not always need to be completely replaced.

Our current additional service prices are:

• Denture repair: £50
• Denture tooth addition: £150
• Flexible Valplast tooth addition: £300

A repair may be appropriate when a denture has fractured but is otherwise serviceable. However, repeated fractures can indicate an underlying problem with the fit, bite, design or age of the denture.

A hard reline replaces or resurfaces the fitting side of the denture to correspond more closely with the current shape of the gums. It may improve the fit when the mouth has changed but the teeth and bite remain acceptable.

Relining cannot correct every problem. It will not completely redesign an incorrect bite, restore severely worn teeth or repair a denture that has become unsuitable in several different ways. Sometimes replacement offers better long-term value than repeatedly repairing an ageing appliance.

What Are You Actually Paying for When You Buy Dentures?
The visible denture is only the final result. Much of the important work happens during the appointments and inside the dental laboratory.

Depending on the treatment, the process may include:

How Do Private Denture Prices Compare With NHS Dentures?
In England, clinically necessary dentures may be available under NHS Band 3 treatment. NHS charges can change, and access to NHS treatment depends on the availability of an NHS dentist and your clinical requirements.
NHS and private dentures should not be compared on price alone. NHS treatment is intended to provide clinically necessary care, while private treatment may provide greater choice over materials, appointment time, tooth selection, design and cosmetic customisation.

NHS dental systems and charges differ across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Check the official arrangements where you live and ask the practice to explain exactly what is included.

Private care does not guarantee that a denture will feel identical to natural teeth. What it can offer is greater choice, more individualisation and access to options such as genuine Valplast, cobalt chrome, premium cosmetic dentures and implant retention.

Can the Cost of Dentures Be Spread Across Appointments?
At Swissedent, we use a straightforward staged payment approach.
Our usual payment structure is:

• A 50 per cent payment once your treatment plan is accepted and treatment begins
• The remaining balance paid across your treatment appointments
• The final balance cleared by the fitting appointment
  
  

This allows the payments to follow the progress of your treatment without requiring the entire fee at the beginning.
You will know what you are paying, when payments are due and what treatment has been recommended. If separate dental treatment is required, such as extractions, examinations or implant surgery, this should be identified independently.

Will a more expensive denture stay in without adhesive?
Not necessarily. Retention depends on your anatomy, saliva, muscles, impression, bite and whether the denture is upper or lower. No ethical clinician should guarantee that every conventional lower denture will remain completely still.

Are adjustments normal after receiving new dentures?
